Riding On Lamb's Wool

As hot as it's been over the past few days, there are signs of the season's change in the trees.  They are starting to turn various shades of yellow and brown.....

We decided to try some Lamb's wool on my seat to make my riding experience more tolerable....We hunted and searched all over and could not find any anywhere....except in the form of a mit that is used for washing expensive cars.....So, we bought one and used a seam ripper to flay it open and remove the cuff.  Since I still had the elastic bands from the last "monkey butt fail"....I used those to secure it.

I still had that excersize foam under the lamb's wool to give me some extra lift....

and then I remembered that the whole monkey butt thing got worse as there was no air flow!  So.......Walla!  Air conditioning .......:-)..

And now, to put the masterpiece together on "Ms Vickey"............:-).  I'm starting to feel relief and I ain't even sittin on her yet........:-).  ha

PRESTO!!  And here is the finised product......:-).  But of course, we have to try it out....

Scootard had to replace the front tire on "Maj" and the tire came by UPS today, the first thing to do is to get that tire on. Scooters and motorcycles are not that abundant here in this town for some reason.  So, the only place that would even touch it was the Yamaha dealer...who (by the way) charged us 75.00 to change the tire.....:-(.  We headed out with the tire strapped to "Maj" and me in the car behind Scootard.

I won't even tell you what they wanted to charge for the tire and an oil change.  Which is why Scootard ordered the tire online for $40.00 bucks cheaper and changed his own oil ahead of time.  We got the bike to the shop and decided to go for lunch instead of hanging around.....

By, "Maj"!  See ya soon....:-).

Since the Chinese resturant was right across the street....we drove over there for lunch.  It was a buffet and I had sushi with a few other things with some wasabi.  The wasabi seemed watery, but when I actually put it in your mouth...........you experienced an alternate universe!  hahaha

Then we went back to the house after lunch and got Ms Vickey so that we could try out my new seat cushion.....:-)

We headed toward the tiny town of Cache, Oklahoma.  It is amazing what you will see from a scooter or motorcycle.....or not....haha......

We continued our travel to the wild life refuge and decided to stop at this trading post for a cold drink.  I was sweating in my gear and knew I needed to drink....something!

There wasn't a whole lot to see, but we did have some interesting conversation with the owner who had been "gifted" the old building when his family members passed away.

Scootard was discovering that his new and improved "air conditioned" seat was not keeping things cool at all....so, we were both glad to be out of the saddle for a bit....

I discovered that while I was not dealing with "chafing", the bump between the rider and passenger seat which still needs to be shaved down, is hitting me in the tail bone....:-(.  UGH!!   We searched and searched and there is no machine shop or auto place that does that kind of work.......tragic!

We were in and out of the trading post with our root beer soda and sat outside to cool off....in the shade before heading off again.

and we started our trek through the refuge......Scootard is always amazed at things he has seen before.......:-).  So, I just waited until he was done being amazed......:-).

We saw a turn off and decided to take it.  Scootard has been to this particular place before on a previous fishing trip.  I love the way the road we had just traveled dissappeared into the distance.......

And I love being by the water....the wind was blowing pretty strong though and I thought we would get pushed off the hill!  I was concerned that Ms Vickey was going to get blown off of her side stand, so we put her on the center stand.....

We stayed a while and enjoyed the quiet and the vastness of the area.  There is a reason they call this "The Great Plains".....:-).  I used to come here years ago and often tought about walking over to the sentry point in the distance.  But I always found it either too hot or too cold to make the walk......So, a picture will have to do.

Since we were both sweating in our gear, we stripped it off and decided to rest a bit.

I love Brachycome flowers......but I never noticed that they grew wild in Oklahoma until today.....:-).

Scootard decided to walk below to get some pics.....  I was too tired to think about climbing the stairs back up....so I didn't...haha

I was starting to cool down some, but realized that my feet seemed to be on fire and I needed to get out of my boots for a bit as well.....:-).

and then the inevitable happened.  I started getting really sleepy from all of the fresh air and the sudden cool down and knew we had better head back.  We were taking the highway back to Lawton.....the wind was vicious, but we had to get home....I took my hair out of my helmet to help keep my neck cooler this time.

and wouldn't you know.........but after entering the facility and finding it occupied by a hugh alien grasshopper....I decided to "hold it"! ....I DO NOT do grasshoppers.....haha.

We made it back in one piece and the "monkey butt" didn't seem to be as severe as in times past although not completely conquered.  If I can get rid of that divider between the seats, the battle will be over.....

But until then, I'll just keep riding it like I stole it!

See ya next time!

A Bitter Sweet Day

The last two days have been very busy and I have been very tired trying to keep up with commitments with others and rearranging my schedule for things more pressing.  In the midst of the busyness, I have had some fun times with my youngest daughter who currently lives in our home in the states.  We went to lunch yesterday and ended the meal with a good dose of cotton candy which to my great surprise dissappeared in no time flat! ha  I decided to pass on the "sugar high" and let them have at it...:-)

As you can see, Scootard was having a blast as well.....:-).  The sugar kicked in later!  oh my!

The next day, I decided to take the whole "Monkey Butt" syndrome to the matt.....sooooo, we bought an excersize matt and decided to see about modifying my seat to make it a bit more comfortable.

Now, I know it looks "hillbilly", but I figured....hey, what the heck- eh?   So, here is the finished product on "Ms Vickey".

Well, you know Scootard had those gigantic, blue "mouse pad" looking thingees on his seat and decided to do some modifications to "Maj".......

A master Scootard at work............

cut, cut, trim, trim.......

And after all of the cutting and trimming was done.....he decided to give it some extra security........yepppp. He used SHRINK WRAP! hahaha......

oh my.........haha.  Well, at least we are sitting on them.....:-)

It was getting on in time and we still had an important visit to make with an old friend to say goodbye, but we needed to eat first.  So, we grabbed lunch at the mall........Geeze...I have to stop eating this kinda stuff....I gained 4 POUNDS since I've been here!  EEEKKK!

We left the mall and headed down the street and around the corner to visit a friend for the last time.......

A man whose prayers I am grateful for and will always remember his smile.......:-) Rest in peace, my friend...:-).
After a visit with him and his wife, we decided to take a ride out of town........to a little town called Geronimo; named after the Indian warrior.......

And there was nothing to see.  The main street didn't have any thing on it except a couple of houses.  Not even a store........Wow!  We sat there in disbelief....ha.  I had never been to this town even though I had lived only a few miles away for 18 years.  I guess I didn't miss anything!

But all was not lost!  We did see this on the way......haha....I call it "feather grass" although I think it is really called something else.  But you can see why I call it that, right?

Well, we had to get back because my daughter had a show this evening that we promised to attend.   It will be my first time seeing her on a stage since she was in Junior High......:-).  She is a musician both vocally and instrumentally......  She got the "singing pipes" from me, but she's much better than I ever was.....:-)

By the time it started it was dark outside, so the sign showed up nicely outside....:-).

And the lighting inside was nice too...... until they turned the lights out......:-(.

Scootard was doing great until they started playing.  As bands go, they were loud, but he was ready.  He put in earplugs!....haha.  The music was so loud that he could still here the music through industrial noise dampeners.

So, there was my "youngin", up there doing her thing with a band that was trying, and at times, "very trying", but she soldiered on anyway.....I told her long ago that I would always support her as long as she kept it "clean"....and she did.....:-).

I like this little place as it was more of a family friendly enviroment.  No alchoholic beverages were served, but they had food and virgin drinks........:-).  cool.....I drank water and listened to her sing........:-)

And then, the music started seeping through Scootard's industrial ear plugs!  hahahaha.  I didn't think he was gonna make it! haha

It was a nice bit of a break when my daughter came and sat with us after her performance. She came and sat  by me.....:-).  We look so much a like (I'm told) that I was "beside myself"!! hahahah....  get it??

We were tired and a bit drained from the last two days and knowing what we had to do the next day, we decided to leave, grab a quick dinner and relax before going to bed..:-).  It was a bitter-sweet day. I had to say a final goodbye to a friend, and find out that my seat modification on Ms Vickey needs more modifications!  ugh....:-(.  I hate "monkey butt"!!....

Scootin to Duncan, Oklahoma

Today was such a beautiful day that we decided to get going as soon as we could on a ride out of town.  It was a  short trip to the next town over headed East called Duncan.  Having lived in the Lawton area for 18 years, I had frequented Duncan quite a bit, but had never gone from one end of the town to the other.  So, I was looking forward to seeing what I may have missed all of those years.  But first things first.

I was given an early Christmas present by a fellow rider who told me that I didn't have to wait until Christmas to open.  So, I thought "today is the day I will open it"!  And here it is.

Don't leave home without it!  hahahaha......  I could not believe it! haha.  Well, you know I had to try it out.......:-).  We'll get back to the "results" of the ride later.....

Scootard was getting things ready to roll out of the drive way while I finished getting my gear in place...

After we got everything ready to go we started out on our ride.  The sun was shining and it was very warm outside.  I think it reached 88 degrees (31 degrees celcius) and I was baking in my gear.  I had to adjust my vents on my sleeves to keep from roasting.  The road was long and.........well......like this; coming and going....

We took a small break just to give ourselves a slight break from the heat, but it seemed to get worse the longer I sat, so we took off again.

and rode and rode some more........

And we finally made it to Duncan and decided to ride down the main street and find a resturant.....we saw this on the way.....:-)

After riding through the main street and seeing NOTHING, we asked a lady that we passed about a place to eat and she told us we had to go back to the highway to find something.   So, we set off and found this little place......Scootard was ready to chow down! ha

And I was following a close second......:-)

What we really wanted to eat was a "custom made" pizza.  So, we had to do some "schmoosin" with the waitress to get the special thin crust on the type of pizza we wanted.

After placing our order we decided to get some coffee........big mistake!  We asked for cream and all they had was that powdered non-dairy stuff that makes you wonder what it really is.......:-(.

So, I decided I would just drink water and let them have the "alien" coffee drink.

We had our lunch and decided to make the trip back to Lawton, so we got ourselves ready to go home again......

The whole trip with a couple of stops in between was about 75 miles.......Somewhere during that trip.........This stopped working.......!!

So needless to say, I was glad to get out of the saddle and give my "tender self" a rest! ha

See ya soon!!
